Hall Monitor: Curtis Jones Jr. for Council president? "No ... no ... no ... no."

The final dying utterance of Shakespeare's Prince Hamlet — "O, o, o, o," in a certain lesser-known edition of the play — have long been the subject of existential intrigue and speculation: What mysteries, what revelations lie behind the dark impenetrable veil of those words? Scholars have long pondered the question.

Those scholars may, however, want to just give up and focus instead on a recent remark by 4th District Councilman Curtis Jones Jr.

Hall Monitor had been hearing rumors that Jones — and, to be fair, pretty much everyone else on Council — was considering a run for the presidency of City Council, a post currently held by outgoing Councilwoman Anna Verna. The only Council member to publicly announce her interest so far is 9th District Councilwoman Marian B. Tasco. 5th District Councilman Darrell Clarke has generally been assumed to be Tasco's chief competitor for that position, but a series of fractured Council votes (soda tax, redistricting) have likely weakened Tasco's hold on Council, and the field may be more open than previously thought.

CP asked Jones if he was thinking about running. His response: "No ... [pause] ... no ... [shaking of the head] ... no ... [cocking of the head slightly sideways, pausing, then shaking it again] ... no."

That's four no's, in case you weren't counting. Two rights might not make a wrong. But four no's? We wonder.
