Philly demo to target Corbett town hall, demand schools not jails

Republican Gov. Tom Corbett will be venturing behind enemy lines this Wednesday to hold a “town hall” meeting at the Art Museum (8 p.m., 2600 Benjamin Franklin Parkway). Protesters will gather outside to voice their opposition to his conservative policies.
The protest, organized by Decarcerate PA and Fight for Philly, is demanding that Corbett cancel new prison construction, reinstate the General Assistance cash welfare eliminated in the 2012 budget, and restore cut funding to public education.
Corbett's cuts have proven unpopular statewide, and Democrats are discussing potential challengers in 2014 as his poll numbers drop. On the right, some Republicans grouse that Corbett is not an effective leader.
Anyone who wants to attend the event, which will be hosted by conservative WPHT AM host and Daily News columnist Dom Giordano, should register here. And here's what WPHT says to expect:
“Dom will engage the Governor in a wide-ranging, substantive discussion on the important issues faced by those of us who live and work in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Governor Corbett will speak candidly on the controversies surrounding Penn State, PA’s voter ID law, and education funding. He will also talk about PA’s burgeoning Marcellus shale industry and a host of other economic issues faced by PA residents.”
