Breaking, Dept. of Huge Bummers: Thieves make off with copper piping from Lillian Marrero library

Here's a bummer of a story:

Last night, thieves apparently made off with copper tubing from the Lillian Marrero library, which had apparently been closed for air conditioning repairs.

We got the tip – have I mentioned we're making a new push for reader tips? – from Liz Wagner, who volunteers at the Philabundance office in the library's basement.

Library Director Siobhan Reardon confirmed in an email this evening, telling CP:

"Last night much the copper piping for the water supply inside the building was cut out. The theft affects the Library operation, Philabundance and the City's L&I unit there as well. I cannot tell you much more – who did it – how they broke into the building etc. Naturally, we're working with the police. The building is closed until we, at a minimum, can get running water throughout the building again."

It's probably an inside job... Looks like Library Director Siobhan Reardon *is* getting that hefty bonus next year!
