Boston Tea Party: The Remix?

Unsurprisingly, the Libertarians are up in arms about the bailouts. But then again, so is lot of the country — so much so that non-Libs are coming around to their anti-taxing ideas. One example of this is the Tea Parties that were staged earlier this year in 40 U.S. cities, which protested the "bankrupt liberal agenda of the White House Administration and Congress — specifically, the flawed “Stimulus Bill” and pork-filled budget."

In fact, they were such a success that a second round of Tea Parties are being organized, this time in mock honor of Tax Day. Philly's is on April 15, if thing's go as planned. Which they very well may not. Here's what the PA Tea Party protesters are claiming:

The City of Philadelphia is trying to put the brakes on the upcoming Philadelphia Tax Day Tea Party.

Diana Reimer, the organizer for Philadelphia, was notified (one week before the event) that this event is no longer a "demonstration," but a "special event" and will be required to pay $8,000, even though the city has already provided a permit for demonstration in Love Park.

Perhaps charging protesters exorbitant amounts of money is a new, ridiculously messed up but kind of smart way to raise money?

Fuck it! Let them do it for free! They're going to be complaining one way or the other, whether it's about tax and pork spending or Philly trying to charge them for a special event. On the other hand, they could always contact their corporate sponsor overlords for a much needed donation towards that $8,000 price tag. I'm sure Americans for Prosperity could just write that off as a business expense, right?

Furthermore, unless all 5 attendees happen to be making more than $250,000 a year, shouldn't they all be getting a tax break?

Hello I am happy to say that the problem about our permit has been resolved. The City of Philadelphia's Managing Directors Office and Special Events Office has been very helpful in resolving this problem. All is well in Philadelphia. Diana Reimer
