The community activists in North Philly that I have now written about twice--opening a neighborhood recording studio and campaigning against shootings--have released a Youtube video for the Community Rap-tivist Michael Ta'Bon song “Education Over Incarceration,” featuring the “Youngest Rapper Alive LOWERcase g-L.A.W.”
They condemn cuts to Philly schools and ask, "Uncle Sam, is your plan to arrest the whole nation?"
This is just a teaser video, says Express Ur-Self Incorporated studio owner Terry Starks. They are filming the final video today in West Philly at the site of a recent shooting. More soon.

Didn't your mother teach you not to believe every rumor you hear? While I'm sure there are some good men and women in Congress, most are not worth the space they occupy; Eric massa has more character in his pinky than they have in their collective mass of worthless bodies.

He's not here anymore of course. Elvis left the building over 30 years ago.
There are many Elvis'. Young, (sorta) innocent Elvis. Older, bombed out Elvis. Army Elvis. Movie Elvis (ugh)*.
But my favorite is post '68 comeback Elvis.
In January 1970 he returned to performing live with a month long, two show a night run at the International Hotel in Las Vegas and, imho, firmly established himself as the King of Rock 'n' Roll.
That's The Way It Is documents not just these performances, but the rehearsals leading up to them and shows Elvis in intimate settings rarely seen.
Simply put, it is one of the best and most important Rock documentaries I have ever seen. There's a good chunk of the doc in the second video (after the jump). It's a documentary about the documentary. How meta.

What Tiger Woods has done — make a laughing stock out of his marriage, his squeaky clean image, the idea of upwardly mobile infidelity, an illustrious sporting career — has gone from bad to ridiculous in the weeks since its first gossipy announcement. No doubt about it. He ainât good and he ainât smart. But something got me thinking about Woods decision to take a step back from the game he made so powerful, so alive — golf, not sport-fucking. That something is Chris Brown.
How can you live in a world where Tiger Woods is embarrassed (and rightfully so) enough so that he feels he has to leave the sport heâs excelled at and made better and more gigantic in his wake YET Chris Brown gets to punch a woman in the face, bite her ear, Twitter-bitch about the condemnation heâs received (see below) AND continue on blindly and unapologetically with his career, including recording and releasing CDs (Graffiti) AND sell out shows like last nightâs gig at Electric Factory? After thinking about this dilemma all weekend I couldnât even make myself want to see Brown last night, curiosity or not. Todayâs report doesnât help me feel better about the woman beater.
Tiger — all is not necessarily forgiven yet. But use a golf analogy and play through. If Brown doesnât have to leave, you certainly donât.
This bit from this morning's NY Daily News' Gatecrasher column further illustrates Brown's boneheadedness:
The scorned singer had a meltdown on Saturday after he visited a Walmart in Wallingford, Conn., that didn't carry his new CD, Graffiti.
"im tired of this s--t. major stores r blackballing my cd. not stockin the shelves and lying to costumers," he ranted on Twitter while at the store. "what the f--- do i gotta do...WTF... yeah i said it and i aint retracting s***. im not biting my tongue about s else... the industry can kiss my a--."
Brown, who supposedly has curbed his emotional tirades since his altercation with Rihanna last February, had visited Walmart after several of his fans used Twitter to inform him that stores were refusing to carry his CD.
"They didn't even have my album in the back," Brown spit of the Walmart. "not on shelves, saw for myself. the manager told me that when there are new releases its mandatory to put em on the shelves.. BUT NO SIGN OF GRAFFITI."
And it looks like Brown will be near tears if he comes looking for his CD in New York City, too: Popular music stores including Colony, Bleeker Music Store and Other Music Incorporated have confirmed they are not selling Brown's album.
A salesperson at Bleeker Music replied to our query with an emphatic "Hell, no."
Although bigger chains in New York City like Kmart and Best Buy do have "Graffiti" in stock, it doesn't seem to be helping sales much: estimates out over the weekend report the album hasn't sold more than 100,000 copies in its first week - a dismal number compared to sales of his second album, "Exclusive," which sold over 295,000.
We wonder how Brown will react to that news.
There is something wrong with that boy. I can't believe he's really surprised that a) stores won't carry his CD and that b) people won't buy his CD. The fact that he didn't go away for a while to deal with his problems and anger management problems shows that his remorse for the beating he gave to his girlfriend was short lived. And that outburst and previous outbursts like saying Rihanna shouldn't have talked about the abuse (while he talked about it every opportunity he got), he shows himself for what he is an unapologetic, small minded little tyrant. And I don't buy this excuse people give for him that he's only a boy. 18 year olds go to the army and fight in wars, this boy beat up a woman and is whining that his CD is not doing well. I agree with the article, he is pretty unapologetic about the wrong he has done and even expects people to support him. I couldn't believe when he black mouthed Oprah, because she wouldn't support him. Support him for what? He doesn't needs support, he needs to be set straightened out.
I read there is a new porno movie in the works: Tiger's Wood.
Just out of curiosity.........what does Brown whining about his cd have to do with him not having remorse about beating up his girl friend? I mean, we are talking apples and oranges here. Yes, he's a scum bag, and yes, he's a whiny kid too.
Who is Chris Brown, and why should we care about him? Generic name, not mainstream. Tiger Woods is a household name.
I was at the Chris Brown show on Sunday (for work purposes) and was completely shocked that it was sold out. On top of that, the 70% plus female audience were all dressed like hookers throwing themselves at the stage and screaming like jesus had touched down on the stage. If you can beat up a girl and get this kind of positive attention I really don't know what to think.
I don tink dat wat Tiger did wuz reel smart. I tink dat heez gonna be divorsed heer perrty kwick.
Aren't we a judger of people, don't we feel good.

It would be easy to say that Diddy showed up this morning to visit Chio from Wired 96.5 FMâs morning show, live from the Wachovia Center because the hype regarding his 2010 release Last Train to Paris is on and heâs set to ramp it up big time.
He hyped it. But heâs saving the big drama for the dance floor of mur.mur tonight. This morning though, Diddy was in town as part of Chioâs toy drive and Christmas Wish charity, the one the radio maven started in 1998 to help families with financial and physical needs during the holidays.
Well, hereâs where Diddy won the good guy challenge. As Chio and the radio station were readying to give the recipient of the Chio charity — Sarah Costello — a check for $1,000, Diddy whipped out a pen, wrote on the check, and tacked on another $10,000. Then he posed with the two girls from Dirty Money — his co-contributors to his new Paris CD, and he was off. You win this round, Diddy.

Here's the setlist from Saturday night's Morissey show in Liverpool:
This Charming Man, Black Cloud>bonk>splash>show's over.
Saturday night Morrissey was hit in the head with what appears to be a plastic water bottle.
Now, I don't think it's cool to throw anything at performers, but I have to think Morrissey came up really small here. Sure, have security remove the person who did it, even chastise them publicly as they are escorted out. I know he's has been sick lately, but punish all the other fans? Weak.
I just watched Morrissey get hit in the head like 10 times in a row, and let me tell you... it's kinda funny. First of all, it really does seem to be plastic. It bounces like a plastic bottle and Moz has to figure out what's going on. If it were a glass bottle, he'd be like, "Ow! Fuck! I just got hit by a glass bottle."
Like I said, I'm not condoning the action and I understand why he was upset. But be a pro man, hell, remember rock 'n' roll from your youth a bit. One of my favorite bands has glow sticks hit them regularly, sometimes they improvise with them. The intent behind the actions is different, but it's just a show, and the show must go on.

Let's break down the week ahead.
Tomorrow night there's an Eagles Monday Night Football game against divisional opponent the Redskins. That normally would be about as big of an event on the radar here, but this week it's small potatoes. Nonetheless, we'll be watching and we'll be tired on Tuesday morning.
Just in time for Pearl Jam to begin their 4 night stand to close up shop at the Spectrum. Lots of fond memories there. If you think PJ doesn't know about the Spectrum's place in rock history go back to last summer. While launching into a Baba O'Reilly encore to cap a two night run in Camden Eddie says, "Say goodbye to the Spectrum for us." Little did they know they'll be saying goodbye to it for us.

The next night, Wednesday, Pearl Jam continues their shows. And oh yeah, the Phillies play game one of the 2009 World Series at a site yet to be determined. Are you tired yet? Don't be, cause there's more.
Thursday night is game two of the World Series. Pearl Jam is off that night. No worries here on what to do. I may be wringing my liver out for a brief respite.
Friday, it's the reverse. No Phillies game that night, but Pearl Jam brings us show #3 of the Say Goodbye to the Spectrum For Us run.

Thank the lord that week is over. What? We're just getting going? OK...
Saturday. D-Day. Last night of the Spectrum, home Flyers game at 1 and a World Series game at Citizens Bank Park. And it's all happening on Halloween.
Now, let's sandwich this bonanza with an Eagles game at home against the Giants on Sunday afternoon at 1. Then another home World Series game that night.
OK, now I'm tired.
What happens next is yet to be written by the Phillies. Could be more games, could be another celebration.
Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'm going to take a nap now.

I'm not sure whether newspapers can have sister stations, but we think of WPRB like family around here. Aw. It's true, the free-form commercial-free radio oasis up there in Princeton does so much we like — especially on Wednesday nights when Jon Solomon keeps score at home.
Solomon — who hosted CP's Local Support podcast, back when we could afford such a luxury — is always turning me on to new music, and setting aside blocks of time for in-studio live sets by artists from the Philly-NJ-NYC area.
Tonight, WPRB starts its annual membership drive. I recommend you tune in — Solomon goes on at 7 p.m. with guests/music by like Obits, Jennifer O'Connor, Danielson, Screaming Females, The Spinto Band, Caterpillar, Bitter Bitter Weeks, Rebecca Gates and Tim Midgett — and consider sending some money to keep the station rocking and pick up a sweet t-shirt.

A while back the Clog was interested in where Phish's upcoming 3 day Halloween festival would be held. At the time California was eliminated, but we correctly guessed it would be added back and announced as the location.
Phish has a tendency to wear "musical costumes" on Halloween and play the entire album of another band. In 1994 it was the Beatles' White Album, the next year it was the Who's Quadrophenia. Other year's saw them take on The Velvet Underground and the Talking Heads. They even did all of Dark Side of the Moon once, but that is another story.
Well the next part of the mystery is upon us.
If you go to the festival portion of their website you'll see a slew of covers getting slain. So far, amongst others, Rubber Soul and Who's Next have been eliminated (I guess they don't want to double up) but many amazing albums from all eras remain.
From Saturday Night Fever to Ziggy Stardust to Hello Nasty the choices are wide and varied. Will they do Pearl Jam's Ten as Pearl Jam is closing down the Spectrum in Philly? (I doubt it, but right now it's a possibility)
My personal hope: Electric Ladyland. Page on Voodoo Chile? Yes please.
