Don't know what to do tonight? Don't worried, we've got you covered.

Insult comedy is a thankless job. There's a fine line between pissing off your audience and being entertaining. Jeffrey Ross is a master at towing that line. Taking about Don Rickles mantle, Ross is a frequent contributor (and usually the best part) of the Comedy Central roasts and one of the few who is actually a member — not to mention Roastmaster General — of the NY Friars Club. See him tonight at the Free Library, pimping out his new book I Only Roast the Ones I Love. We're posting Night Moves early today, though, because the FLOP is offering tickets at half price. So get on it before everyone finds out that going to see Ross for $7 is a bargain.

7:30, $7, Free Library of Philadelphia, 1901 Vine St., library.phila.gov.

Slo-Mo. How to describe these local favorites? Mike Brenner in his trademark pristine white suite lays down crunched out lap steel mastery with his long time rhythm section holding the flow.

Mic Wrecka belts out poignant and imaginative raps about weed, Philly, weed and life in general.

Backed with percussion, female vocals (on lead and backup) as well as rhythm guitars you get a lush sound that ranges from gentle ballad to blistering rock.

Don't know what to do tonight? Don't worry, we've got you covered.

Every so often life affords a second chance that allows us to cast aside regret or to simply come to our senses and seize the moment. Such is the case with the Troc's showing of Crank: High Voltage tonight. Unlike a certain Rob Zombie-directed film about a guy who just won't die, Crank is gleefully self-aware, delivering non-stop hilarity through a continuous thread of action that quickly leaps from the improbable to the outright ludicrous. Then again, you need to have a sense of humor when you resurrect your lead character after he face plants on the streets of L.A. from a helicopter at the end of your first film

The premise is simple: Chev Chelios (Jason Statham) needs to keep his temporary, mechanical heart charged with electricity by any means necessary, while hunting down the original (this, opposed to maintaining a super high heart rate in Crank I due to a nasty poison). Some films are made to be dissected on so many levels, while others are meant to be enjoyed with a few beers and the riotous laughter of your friends surrounding you. This is one of the latter.

Crank: High Voltage, The Trocadero, 1003 Arch St., 8 p.m., $3 goes toward a drink or a snack.

Nothing to do tonight? Don't worry, we've got you covered.

It's the perfect night to view a breezy outdoor art installation during your First Friday gallivanting, no? Dennis Ritter, who's studying at Tyler and working at the Clay Studio, has handmade more than 200 porcelain birds and hung them from a net 15 feet above Bird Park (Third and Arch, across the street from Starbucks). "Together, they create a swirling sculpture, over 15 feet high, reminiscent of a flock taking off into the air," says Amy Brisson, who gave us the heads-up about the exhibit which opens at 6 p.m. today with Ritter in attendance. The title "Emergence" is fitting — because of an illness that lost him his job three years ago, Ritter, 33, chose to follow his passion for ceramic arts instead, and from the looks of it, he made the right decision.

Fri., Sept. 4, 6 p.m., free, Bird Park, Third and Arch streets.

No plans for tonight? Don't worry, we've got you covered.

The Collaborative, a nonprofit events org for young Jewish Philadelphians, is hosting a "New to Philly Happy Hour" tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at Time (1315 Sansom St., 215-985-4800, timerestaurant.net). If you're Jewish, in your 20s or 30s and new to our city, this is a good opportunity to mingle and ask the staff questions about Philly. Oh, also drink specials: $3 draft beers, $5 wine and well drinks. While you're there, check out the grub — from the looks of the menu, you've got some tasty kosher options.

Kung Fu Necktie

We first told you about this dance competition in the Summer Fun Guide, when it was going on exclusively at Bob & Barbara's. Looks like it's expanded to Kung Fu Necktie's lineup, too which is no surprise, 'cause almost everyone I know is broke and trying to make quick, easy cash. To thicken your wallet here, you first have to bust a move to four 30-second clips of your favorite songs. If you get to the final round, though, the rest is out of your control you have to spin the "Wheel of Genres," which will determine if it's country, hip-hop or something else entirely you're dancing to. Good luck. An ex-Fly Girl will be judging your ass.

Mon., Aug. 31, 10 p.m., $5, Kung Fu Necktie, 1248 N. Front St., 215-291-4919, kungfunecktie.com.

Don't know what to do tonight? Don't worry, we've got you covered.

Lord knows Philly loves its gender-bending cabaret. (You've heard of Martha Graham Cracker and Cabaret Red Light, yah?) Tonight, you can add one more of these performances to the list Miss Cast 2: A Cabaret of Songs Sung by the Wrong People, which will benefit the local Mauckingbird Theatre Company. Jennie Eisenhower, that saucy, red-lipped lady on the left, will be hosting. And it's only a matter of hours until you see what she looks like gussied up like a man.

Mon., Aug. 17, 7:30 p.m., $25, Second Stage at the Adrienne, 2030 Sansom St., 215-923-8909.

Don't know what to do tonight? Don't worry, we've got you covered.

This is just so weird we like it: Seth Green and the rest of the gang from Adult Swim's Robot Chicken are traveling around the country to promote their Star Wars series — but instead of, like, a Q&A or a standard standup show, they're throwing parties at roller skating rinks. This one'll feature appearances by the Philly Roller Girls and a performance by Gym Class Heroes. We only dislike one of the things in the latter sentence.

Wed., Aug. 12, 8 p.m., free, Jamz Roller Skating, 7017 Roosevelt Blvd., 215-335-3400, adultswim.com/presents/robotchickenonwheels/index.html.

We're seriously digging this girl's hip-hop, Brazilian jazzy, psych rocky, just overall pretty-sounding music. Not to mention her style and that fly cover up top. Listen here.
