Is it possible to capture the soul of a city in a single digital image?

Obviously, yes. But there's more than one way to do it.

Every week, the same thing happens: I forget to ask for pics, then sit down on deadline day, and realize that I'm going to have to lean on the reliably awesome photographers who reliably submit photos for our Photostream column.

Which is just fine. But the more the merrier.

So please submit! You can submit them by submitting them to CP's Flickr account -- flickr.com/groups/philadelphaicitypaper -- or (as of this week) by email (in case you care not to deal with Flickr or create the requisite yahoo account.) at photostream@citypaper.net

If submiting by email, please keep it down to one or pics per week, and include any credit and title information.

I don’t know about you, but this photo has my eyes glued to my computer screen. It's probably the explosion and the the raining paper, but, either way, I can't help but wish I was in Chinatown when this was going down.

But just because the Chinese New Year is over, doesn’t mean you can’t go out and shoot an awesome photo like "lucindalunacy" did.

Once you do, visit City Paper’s Flickr group, login to your Yahoo! account, and post it to our page.

By posting to our Flickr page, you agree to let us publish your photo on the Photostream and, possibly, in the the print edition’s Photostream column. Send ‘em our way!

So, yeah...it sure did snow. And everyone loves seeing your snow photos (including this too-cute snow bear humping who knows what? taken by Photostream group member Robert Francis).

That said, keep them coming!

We here at CP would also love seeing some photos without snow, too. Maybe then we can all forget - if only for a second - that there will be snow on these streets 'til May if Mother Nature keeps this crap up.

To submit your pics, visit City Paper's Flickr group and use your Yahoo account to login and share your photos.

By posting to our Flickr page, you agree to let us publish your photo on the Photostream. Who knows, maybe you'll even see yours in print.

Photo | Joe Moore

It's that time of the week again when we ask you for your best photos, or any photos, for that matter, to City Paper's Photostream column.

This photo, taken by group member Joe Moore, shows the aftermath of the Northeast gas explosion on Tuesday night (and gives us all a sign that 2Pac lives on).

To submit your pics, visit City Paper's Flickr group and use your Yahoo account to login and share your photos.

By posting to our Flickr page, you agree to let us publish your photo on the Photostream. Who knows, maybe you'll even see yours in print.

The Clog's formatting really doesn't do this photo justice — go here to see it up-close. Then imagine Snooki in a a sailor dress, black stockings and a shower cap.

There were even more: but they fled into the bush.

Yup: It's a bunch of wild cats just hanging out – and apparently mating,  but I didn't post that photo – right outside Bartram's Garden this past Sunday.

That's all I've got to say about it, except this: they ought to fire up that old cider press out there, and make some cider. Eh?

Fine, I'll post the other one.

THIS is precisely why people advocate for T-N-R -- trap, neuter, return. It's the humane & cost-effective alternative to the traditional "trap & kill" method of animal control. It's been successful in many municipalities across the country - from big cities to small towns. Check out Alley Cat Allies for info about ferals (WILD) cats & how TNR is highly effective - yes, even MORE effective than killing them.

I found these at the bodega on the corner of Sixth and Tasker streets.

Besides the fact that condoms are, kinda by nature, anti-family … doesn't the phrase "family condoms" gross you out? Especially next to pictures of sexy gals squeezing their armpits, with titles like "Sweet Love" and "Erotic Sensation" above them?

Michael T. Regan

This just in from longtime CP photog/recent Los Angeleno Michael T. Regan via his Bucket of Ashes blog:

It's official, Tom Waits has chosen five of my photographs to appear on the live album he's releasing this fall. Tom Waits: Glitter & Doom Live is a collection of songs taken from his recent tour through the US and Europe. ANTI- records has informed me that one of the images will run as a full 12" panel on the inside of the gate fold LP jacket.

Knowing Regan like I do — the guy is a passionate Tom Waits fan and a collector of Waits vinyl — it's hard to be any happier for him. As he says in his blog: "This is an innocent dream. Tom Waits has had a huge effect on my creative development .… As a collector of his vinyl LP's, being included in the history of creative album photography from 1971 - the present is a tremendous honor."

The shots are from a photo essay Regan did for Phawker from a show in Columbus, Ohio.

This is just really awesome news. Congrats, Mike.

More photos and commentary at Bucket of Ashes.
