Sestak is on Twitter Specter is on Twitter

Over the weekend, Congressman Joe Sestak amped up his Twitter war with Sen. Arlen Specter in their heated contest for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senator.

In the space of just an hour or so, Sestak let loose a veritible barrage:

@SenArlenSpecter: "Let me tell you about a conversation I had with Barack Obama ... right before I voted for Sarah Palin." #pasen

– Saturday, 7:44 PM

@SenArlenSpecter: Do you really want to talk about who is the real Democrat? #pasen

– Saturday, 7:48 PM

<- Thats "the real Alren Specter."

– Saturday, 7:57, referring to an 2004 ad for Specter by (Republican) Sen. Rick Santorum

Team Sestak here. If you heard @SenArlenSpecter say anything about the future, let us know. #pasen

– Saturday, 8:00 PM

The major difference is this: I am a Democrat out of core beliefs and conviction.

– Saturday, 8:14 PM

But a minute later, Specter responded:

Cong. Sestak, why won't you release your records to the public on your being relieved of duty in the Navy?

– Saturday, 8:15 - a reference to his attack on Sestak's 31-year Navy career

Sestak was not one to take such a tweet lying down:

Specter's "show me your records" stunt is older than his jokes.

– Satuday, 8:29

Surely the Tea Party is freaking out about this.

Starting toady and running through June 25, all individuals and businesses (with some exceptions here and there) that owe back taxes to the city can fork up the money without paying any penalties or attorney fees, and only paying half the interest. It goes for all debts that have accrued between 1986 and 2009, and applies to all major types of city taxes.

This is the first time the city has done this since '86. Mayor Nutter believes $40 million can be collected through this, and seeing as how the city is paying up to $13 million for marketing and running the program, it should be interesting to see how that pans out. Check out the Philadelphia Tax Amnesty website for more info.

Russ Diamond, in case you somehow weren't aware, is a Republican running for Lt. Governor in this month's primary. He is the only candidate, so far as I know, to have his own music video, which is an achievement that I believe merits attention.

Oh wait, strike that. Turns out, Mr. Diamond may be the only LG candidate to actually be playing in his own music video, but competitor/other guy you've never heard of Steve Johnson is rocking and rolling, too.

I couldn’t get to the 3rd Annual Utley All-Star Animals Casino Night that Jen and Chase threw the other night at the Electric Factory with the venue’s host Larry Magid. I was busy adopting a greyhound that we named Django. Yay me. Yay Django.

That said, over 450 attendees hung with Phillies’ Ryan Howard, Shane Victorino, Jayson Werth, Cole Hamels, Jimmy Rollins and Brian Schneider. There were a few non-ballers at the Factory, too, such as Larry and Mickey Magid, 76ers top dogs Billy King and wife Melanie, U.S. Olympic speed skater Allison Baver and Stephen Starr — all who helped raise $284,000 for the Etana Fund to Stop Cruelty Against Animals.

Though the silent auction was packed with cool packages such as a dinner in your home with chef Matthew Levin, a Kings of Leon “Experience” at the Borgata, a hang with violinist Joshua Bell when he plays with the Philly Orchestra and player-designed plaster dogs decorated by members of the Phillies, my favorite item came during the live auction — a walk-on movie role in the next Farrelly Brothers movie, Walter The Farting Dog that garnered $9,500.00. (The night’s PR peeps Cashman & Associates said the buyer wanted to remain private.) If your neighbor says he’s doing a dog flick, call me.

“We're adopting a dog, too,” said Electric Factory’s Larry Magid the day after the affair. “Love greyhounds. They're cool.” Magid’s up to a few other cool things this week — booking Hole and Phil Collins at the Factory for June, bringing in a press flack. Look for more Magid and Django in Icepack on Thursday.
