Here's the (Google Translated) explanation:
When Sami Kapanen (# 24) had announced the closure of his career as a player in May 2010, I approached him ideallani to make a unique portrait of respect for his long career. The idea was to make the traditional portrait of a different image, which reflects a Sam's colorful career stages, as well as statistics on cities and teams, where the Sami had played during his career. The original was my idea to do a little "Mad Max "-style picture of a tornado has torn through the urban scene. Jere Hietala image goalie Jani Hurmeesta haaksirikkoontuneiden ship in the middle was also a big source of ideas for the entire project. Sami's idea was inspired by him, and gave me carte blanche to go to the portrait. I asked the partner to the table frame makers frame makers Jari Salli, which did not have long to persuade this wonderful project that.
You get the gist. If you read Finnish, click here to learn about the many stages of brainstorming and computer imagsing it took to bring this thing into existence.
Here is bit better translation in english: --- When Sami Kapanen (# 24) had announced the end of his career as a hockey player in May 2010, I approached him with an idea to make him an unique portrait to respect his long career. The idea was to make a special portrait which reflects his colorful career, as well as statistics, cities and teams where Sami had played during his years as a professional hockeyplayer. The original idea was to create "Mad Max"-style picture where tornado or hurricane has torn through a urban city scene. Sami got interested about the portrait, and gave me permission to proceed with the project. The project began to move forward at the end of the summer when I took photographs of Sami shooting on ice. Sami had forgotten to take the KalPa hockey jersey with him, but when Sami walked onto the ice without the jersey it was clear that mere protectors on Sami gave more attitude and an appropriate feeling to the image theme. By coincidence I became acquainted with a young talented German artist Manuel Rumpf, who I persuaded to join the project. Together We designed the general feeling and the main elements to the picture. We began to work on the files separately and decided to put the images together at a later stage. Manuel started to model the buildings in 3D or painted them with the computer. After that I texturized them with real life photograph textures. Step by step the picture began to take shape. Details were added and the final form of the picture began to show. I tried to find interesting ways of presentating the statistics in the form of pictures. In December after colorful process the picture was finally finished, printed and delivered to Jari Sallinen for framing. Jari made a contribution to the image by creating the unique picture frames finalizing the rough and edgy look. The image, simply called "24" was released January 8th at the opening of the new KalPa club. At the same time the picture was also revealed at Alias Studiot website (www.aliasstudiot.fi), where the image can be zoomed and viewed at full size. _Antti Karppinen / Alias Studios Contact Antti Karppinen, Alias Studios +358 40 8641355 antti [at] aliasstudiot.fi www.aliasstudiot.fi
[...] Here's a picture of former Flyer Sami Kapanen playing hockey alone … [...]
"Post Apocalyptic Philadelphia" = how most people from the suburbs (ie Flyers fans) already see our city.

Yeah. Some benchhawk called Pronger names and Bob Brady put on a Chicago jersey but I can't give a shit right now. Circus is over. Flyers fought hard, defied all odds and expectations, and lost.

Are you betting on the Flyers? This guy is.
Think Pierre Maguire is the most useless hockey commentator of all time? You're right. But Canadian TV viewers appear to be in their own personal hell.
Do the Flyers make you want to be a better person? @earth_lovin's feelin' like that: "I realize I haven't been very nice lately but, that can all change if... the #Flyers win tonight. Let's Go Flyers."
Flyered up on the pregnant belly. Wow. Flyered up on the highway. Yay. Flyered up on the highway x 100000!!! Watch Flyer Frank spraypaint his car orange. Holy crap, dude.
There's a pep rally at noon today at the Wach.
Hey Wayne Gretzky. BOBBY CLARKE IS ALIVE. You have to be dead to have a ghost, usually. But we thank you for your support.
Leighton will start. But will he?! Yes, TSN. Stop pretending.
Ooh, there's gonna be a TV show about NHL refs. "Bill McCreary has seen it all over nearly three decades of officiating NHL games..." Really? Pretty sure he missed a bloody high sticking call on Sunday.
Tonight, people.

| It looks photoshopped, but it's not. His head just looks like that. |
Yes, I saw that Conan was wearing a numberless Flyers jersey at the Tower show last night (click on that 700Level's got lots of clips). And Trey Anastasio was wearing a Briere jersey. I assume the song is still winding down. I got more Flyered seeing a dude rocking a Brashear jersey on my way to work.
This is funny, but after the last game it has a little less bite. This gets old. This is funny still.
Never forget: Patrick Kane is the kind of guy who would beat up a cab driver for 2o cents.
What's your favorite Flyers symbol subversion? This one with a heart for a dot is nice, but I would loooove a shirt with this one from the Philadelphia Ghostbusters site. That is sweet.
Dear referees: Look at the blood. You effed up.
Are we living in the present? Rich Hofman of the Daily News thinks the Flyers need a new J.J. Daigneault. Then he types his thoughts up for us to read. He's right, though. We need a hero.
Here's some tweets of inspiration from @TastyBakingCo, @Mike_Tursi and Peter Laviolette.
Tomorrow night, people.

- Guess what? God is on our side. And this dude. And on the Black Hawks' side? This guy.
- The Hawks are splitting up their top line. Pronger's like whatever.
- Dumbest sub-subplot of the Finals so far? Gotta be this stupid "Flyers Flash Mob" story. C'mon.
- Okay, here's where you can download that insane "Briere Betts and Pronger" song.
- There's a big bike race going on, and at least one of the racers is Flyered Up.
- The Philadelphia Union are Flyered Up in Chicago. Ballsy! I hope you guys get the use of your hands soon.
- Patrick Kane: "I've heard from different sources that the town's not happy with us right now."
- Your refs tonight? Bill McCreary and Dan O'Halloran.
- Claude Giroux is awesome.

- The Inky's Phil Sheridan has a decent piece on what he's calling the Redemption Line: Hartnell-Briere-Leino. (Related: There's this article which chalks up Hartnell's tough season to undisclosed off-ice personal issues.)
- The Flyers are "oozing confidence," apparently. Oozing it.
- This stupid article says Laviolette and Pronger are full of one-liners and quips, then fails to come up with examples. It's stupid. Don't click on it. (And what is this "fanfeedr" thing, some sort of traffic-stealing spambot situation? Don't click on that either.)
- Will stellar Stanley Cup final signal NHL's rebirth? Dumb headline, but a decent piece. Quotes Drew Lazor's BFF Keith Primeau.
- Why Lappy's going with the smaller helmet/face shield configuration. You could tell that first one he had made it impossible to find the puck near his skates. Also: His brain is healed so why would he need "extra" protection?
- History Will Be Made: Giroux edition. (Also, hockey's so weird/awesome in dead-silent ice-level slow-mo.)
- Oskars Bartulis will stay in the line-up. Anybody read Latvian? And: rumor is Carcillo-out, JVR-in. I have no link for this because I'm making it up.
- Is it just me, or do the Flyers look like prison road crew sewer-dwelling disaster survivors in those huge, overly elasticized hoodies?
- Bored, The Chicago Tribune caught up with Terry Murray for a comment on the Finals. Terry likes the Flyers.
- Which "goal song" is better? Eh. I'll take the one not in the beer commercial, I guess, but I've long since resolved myself to the fact that, besides "Welcome to the Jungle," I'll never agree with my fellow hockey fans when it comes to music.
- Hey look! It's time once again for some idiot from someplace else to say stupid things about Philly. Sigh. Nobody cares. You're a cliché.
- The Flyers and Hawks are in the Finals, which is a great reason for TSN.com's columnists to talk about the Senators and Maple Leafs. Oh, Canada.

- Flyers Win! Black Hawks lose! Ville Leino is awesome. Scott Hartnell, too! And Giroux! I'm freaking out go flyers. Okay. Settling down. Watch all the highlights here.
- It was really loud at the Wachovia Center, apparently; click on that link to see an event/decibel correlation.
- Were you at the game? ?uestlove was, and he approves.
- What's the deal with that Rednex Rebellion hat Mike Richards is always wearing in the post-game interview? I don't know. They're a clothing company.
- Great recap/analysis at the700level.
- Philly.com has a slideshow showing, among other things, the Flyers' pre-game ritual of kicking a soccerball around in the depths of the Wach. (Warning: An advertisement starts yelling at you about a truck when you go to the page.)
- Conshy Bakery says they have a Flyers-related magic tomato pie. They have a picture of it; looks like they put cheese on their tomato pie. I do not approve.

- Joe Biden got himself a Flyers Jersey, with #2 on the back. Word is this is a vice presidentthing, not a poop joke. (Dan Gross, Daily News)
- In keeping with the "everybody wants us to lose" mentality we strive for, here's a little piece on the U.S. government's attempts to contain the Flyers. It's satire but it's also really real, you know? (Philly Gameday)
- 700level's got a smart thinkpiece on the "he can take it, he's a hockey player" mentality, particularly when it comes to Ian Laperriere who's lost teeth, blood, looks and brains for the Flyers this year. (700level)
- Finals tickets is totally a buyer beware situation. (Inky)
