With the city still buzzing from last year’s inaugural festival, the 2nd annual Center City Jazz Festival is set to kick off on Friday, May 10th with an expanded schedule and more stages. The Philadelphia Museum of Art will be the first of six venues to host some of today’s most exciting jazz talent. That night, vocalist Venissa Santi and her band will feature the Grammy-nominated, Downbeat Magazine Readers Poll-winning saxophonist, Jane Bunnett. The “festival crawl” will take place on Saturday, May 11th, when more than a dozen bands captivate audiences with new and original sounds. To cap off the evening, the incomparable pianist and festival headliner, Orrin Evans takes the stage and defies convention with his singular style.

THE YELLOW TICKET: 
SILENT FILM WITH LIVE MUSICAL ACCOMPANIMENT

A live multimedia concert event featuring the 1918 silent film The Yellow Ticket, accompanied  by violinist Alicia Svigals’ original score.  Svigals, one of the world’s foremost klezmer fiddlers, will perform with virtuoso Canadian pianist  Marilyn Lerner, adding an exciting  and immediate new dimension to this forgotten film classic.

Commissioned by the Foundation for Jewish Culture’s New Jewish Culture Network

Presented in collaboration with the National Museum of American Jewish History.
