Ultimate Depression

Landis on Larry

You don't need me to tell you what a bummer of a week and weekend it's been for localish sports. Without getting into the fleecing pulled off by the Yankees in the Bobby Abreu swindle (i need to calm down before I even think about touching that), there is the continuing sad story of Floyd Landis, who's being dragged through the international press as the whipping boy for sports cheats before he's even gone throught the UCI's admittedly dubious version of due process. And thanks to the media's general inabilty to grasp even the slightest nuance, Landis' story has been generally reported as "Landis fails drug test" which is so far from being accurate it boggles the mind. Landis' test showed an abnormal ratio of testosterone to epitestosterone (not necessarily even a high level of testosterone) which COULD mean he was cheating but COULD ALSO mean any number of other things, not the least of which being that the beer and four shots of Jack Daniels he consumed following his historic Stage 16 collapse interacted strangely with the thyroid medication and cortisone shot he'd been taking quite legally.

Which is why we direct you to the fine folks at Free Floyd Landis and Trust But Verify who are doing their best to keep up on the vagaries of this ongoing situation because, yes, it is ongoing despite the swift ruling in the court of public opinion.

Thanks to Meg for the pass-along
