Philly's gay theater-loving community was swept into a tizzy last spring when the Gay and Lesbian Theatre Festival called it quits after a seven-year run. But thankfully our rainbow skivvies weren't twisted for too long. This month, Quince Productions presents GayFest!, a two-week showcase of four LGBTQ-specific Philly premières and one locally written staged reading. Here's a nibble of what you're in for:

The Last Sunday in June The modern-day homosexual is the focus in this comedy about four guys gathered in a New York City apartment on Gay Pride Day. The wit-dripping dialogue among the cast of gay stereotypes — a nelly twink, a bitter, over-the-hill queen — questions the relevance of queer-centric celebrations at a time when gay culture is becoming mainstream.

Devil Boys From Beyond Director Dave Ebersole describes this Buddy Thomas- and Kenneth Elliott-penned play as a "spoof on really bad sci-fi movies from the 1950s." Expect men in old-women drag, hunky aliens and UFOs crash-landing in Florida. But don't let the outrageousness distract you: There's a chord-striking message here. Beam into it, Scotticia.

The Beebo Brinker Chronicles Based on the mid-century novels of "Queen of Lesbian Pulp Fiction" Ann Bannon, this funny-yet-profound drama (pictured) follows three dykes as they come to terms with their same-sex desires in a time when lesbianism was considered curable with a cup of special root tea.

Slipping Playwright Daniel Talbott's "haunting and poetic" examination of gay teenage love pursues Eli, an angsty teen whose memory of an abusive, stuck-in-the-closet boyfriend stands in the way of his embracing a fella with more admirable affections. Festival organizer Rich Rubin directs.
