What is it about food that's so sexy? Is it the nibbling, sucking, slurping and satisfied afterglow? Not exactly, says Fred Dodsworth, who recently devoted an issue of his food zine, au Juice, to the relationship between food and sex. "They are the two most intrinsic human desires," explains Dodsworth. "We need food to survive and sex to keep the species going."

Good point, but thankfully his publication tackles the topic with a lot more sass. In the third installment of au Juice, you'll find articles about that creamy and hot Swiss wonder - fondue; the culture and lore of musk; and corn - the "true blue American porn food." In "Love's Labors Lost," Amy Wallace surveys a brief history of aphrodisiacs: Julius Caesar believed that eating lamprey increased the output of seminal fluid, Cleopatra ate crocodile semen for medicinal purposes and an old German wives tale says eating an apple soaked in the sweat of your loved one's armpits will incite love. Gets you hot and hungry just thinking about it, eh? If you want a copy of issue 3 of au Juice, act quick, there aren't many left. Send $8 ($5 for the magazine, $3 for priority mail) to au Juice, Box 9068, Berkeley, CA 94709.
