Dawn Wells The girl-next-door from Gilligan's Island, Mary Ann, aka Dawn Wells, has had to bear that "America's Sweetheart" image for far too long. Here, she finally lets her pigtails down for a chat about what gets her motor pumping when she's got other things on her mind than coconut cream pie. What's your idea of a romantic evening? Probably in some hideaway somewhere. A fire in a fireplace, music, champagne. Either room service, or I would cook. What would you cook? I'd do something Italian. What kind of music? I would say sexy music. Sexy rock music. Barry White. What's the most romantic date you've been on? Once, I was planning to go on a picnic, but it poured. So we had an impromptu picnic on the floor in the hotel room, complete with beach towels, wine and guacamole. It was just like a picnic, only on a green carpet in a hotel. Any dates from hell? I haven't really had any disasters. I've never dated someone I didn't know. No blind dates? Never. So far so good. I always feel you can get something out of an evening. It may not be romantic, but maybe I can learn something about fly fishing... What's your ideal kind of guy? Someone who is bright, intelligent, has a sense of humor, is kind and caring to others, not just me. I like someone who is ambitious, but knows how to relax, loves the outdoors. Handsome is not an issue. Money is not an issue. I want someone who knows who he is and loves what he is doing and does it well. In college and high school, I was always in love with football players... Are men intimidated going out with Mary Ann? I don't think they are intimidated by Mary Ann. She is their choice. She is really revered and loved. It is not Dawn Wells they are in love with. It is the character of this young girl. They kind of want a nice girl. She is very attainable. Then again, maybe I don't get asked out because men think that Miss America is always too busy. Lots of people have asked who was sexier, Ginger or Mary Ann. But if the guys weren't on the Minnow, who would you go for, Ginger or Mrs. Howell? Mrs. Howell. Natalie Shaeffer was really one of my best friends. She was very much like her character. Witty, funny, fun. Ginger was into herself. Dawn Wells will appear at the Philadelphia Boat Show, Sat., Feb. 8., Pennsylvania Convention Center, 12th & Arch Sts. Call (610) 449-9910 for more info. |
