Do You Care Enough? There are times when you can't seem to put what you want to say in words, so you let a "message tape" do the talking - you know, one of those compilations where the words of every tune has a special meaning. A friend of mine once got one of those message tapes from her depressed ex-boyfriend filled with songs like "It's the End of the World" and "Hey, That's No Way to Say Goodbye." Boy did we get a laugh or two out of that pathetic loser. Now pathetic losers across the country will be able to save some time and their tape heads with Hallmark Cards' CD Greetings. For $9.95, you get a CD with four schmaltzy songs and an equally sappy message. "You're the music... the melody... the meaning in my life," reads one that comes with a CD full of winners like REO Speedwagon's "Keep On Loving You," Blood, Sweat & Tears' "You've Made Me So Very Happy" and "I Want You to Want Me" by Cheap Trick. The first two seem fine for that aging Baby Boomer feeling guilty on Valentine's Day, but isn't "I Want You To Want Me" more than a bit desperate? Other CD Greetings don't gush quite as much, with prickly numbers like Helen Reddy's "Ain't No Way To Treat A Lady" and "My Boyfriend's Back" by The Angels. Nothing quite like Helen Reddy to get your blood boiling. |
