Delicious Disc

While food is of the barest biological essentials to human life, it has taken on a myriad of cultural roles including comforter, aphrodisiac and even social catalyst. But what's a food fanatic to do between in-between-meal snacks?

Listen to songs about food of course.

When I'm Hungry I Eat, put out by Gourmandizer zine, is stocked with 31 genre-transcending tracks - auditory finger-food.

"Donut Man," by wckr spgt, cleanses the palate with a poignant testimonial to donut as peacemaker: "A wife simply cries/ her husband brings her a donut" and "Angry young man/ a donut takes the anger away."

El Tiante tackles a timeless quagmire and offers a little food for thought: "Are you garbanzo or are you a chick pea?" and The Tinklers examine the eating habits of humankind's closest relatives on "Chimp Party:" "Fishing for termites with a stick/ Eat 'em all day and they won't get sick."

Returning to the subject of donuts, Beangirl woos with "Donut messages of love" on "Donut Trailer."

Admittedly, When I'm Hungry I Eat is not quite cooked the whole way through; in fact, a lot of it plain out rots. But there's enough on this musical buffet so that there's something for everyone.
