The Black Cat is a store filled with gems created by artisans all over the world.
Their socially responsible products often benefit causes like
feeding children in Colombia or giving work to the unemployed.
Handmade books (from cover to paper to binding), crafted by Mayan
artists in Southern Mexico, are made with raw materials and traditional
binding and dyeing techniques. They range in price from $12-$30,
and are available in varying styles and sizes. This collectible model Vespa ($16, above) is made entirely from
recycled aluminum cans and hails from Vietnam. Other styles include
planes, helicopters, cars and even a Harley Davidson, ranging
in price from $12- $45. The Black Cat, 3426 Sansom St., 386-6664.
