It’s an open secret that some of the best opera in this region comes from the incredible student performers (not just at Curtis, but AVA and Temple as well). Try out this compellingly diverse trio of short operas from Purcell, Berio and Weill.

Network for New Music
Electronic music is so ingrained in our musical environment that it is hard to imagine it was once cutting- edge stuff. NNM seeks to recapture that excitement this season, beginning with a few new works by local composers inspired by their pioneering predecessors.

Dolce Suono Ensemble
Claude Debussy would be 150 if he were alive today, and Dolce Suono has a whole season in celebration. First up, an exploration of Debussy and jazz, featuring sax master Matthew Levy, who will also bring along a new composition.

Benjamin Beilman
Beilman is a spectacular young violinist, the latest wunderkind emerging from a Philadelphia nexus including Curtis (his alma mater) and Astral Artists (his current agency). This intriguing recital consists of masterpieces by Poulenc, Brahms, Messiaen and Schubert.

Pierre-Laurent Aimard
This superb, probing pianist often presents newer music alongside classics, as if to make the point that it is all of a kind, which of course it is. His program includes a recent work of Heinz Holliger, as well as standards from Schumann and Debussy.

Philadelphia Orchestra
Alexander Nevsky is not Sergei Eisenstein’s best film, but it does feature one of the greatest scores ever written, courtesy of Prokofiev. It should be an extraordinary treat to see it accompanied by a live performance, including a full chorus and soloist.
