Asian American Film Festival

Nov. 2-8, $8, various times and locations

[ movies ]

The fourth annual Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival is bigger than ever, with a personal-best seven days of feature films, shorts and documentaries that organizer Joe Kim calls "a multifaceted view of Asian-Americans that is not typically seen in mainstream America." Standouts include Dirty Hands, a banned-in-Japan doc that follows tortured artist David Choe as he attempts to remedy his self-destructive lifestyle of theft and violence; bloody vengeance flick The Girl from the Naked Eye; and Wedding Palace (pictured), a comedy about a man who prefers online dating to physical interaction that features A-lister Margaret Cho. Check the festival's website for a lineup of post-movie Q&A sessions with stars and filmmakers.
