Hordes of screaming theatergoers will soon run out of the Colonial Theater as if pursued by a mass of alien goo in a re-creation of the defining scene of the 1958 monster flick The Blob. The movie, Steve McQueen’s screen debut, is set in Phoenixville and was filmed locally. The movie-theater scene was actually shot in the Colonial Theater — hence the town’s annual celebration. The star event, Friday’s “run-out,” is already sold out, but you can be a spectator when the screaming starts at 9 p.m. or walk a few doors down to the ’50s themed Blob Ball (get tickets in advance). The next day has the free fair with contests, food, music and the traditional Fire Extinguisher Parade at noon. Those afraid of melting can sit down in the air-conditioned theater for screenings of The Blob and other mid-century horror films throughout the three-day Blobfest.
