With a cursory listen, an amateur shrink might conclude Charlene Kaye's suffering from a personality crisis. Is she a folkie or an electropop tart? Torch singer, punk rocker or knob twiddler? Nope. Peg her as a theater nerd, practiced at filling multiple roles but unwilling to keep her big, showy voice under wraps. Animal Love, Kaye's Kickstarter-funded second album, is all over the place stylistically: "Until the Morning" swims in sweet a cappella soul, "A Million Years" swings for the upper balcony and the title tracks — which begin and end the set — bounce from dancefloor to rock club to orchestra without breaking a sweat. It's unlikely you'll like everything Kaye has to offer, but she throws so much at the wall that something's bound to stick.
