If you’re not familiar with the elastic rhythms and ecstatic melodies of Haitian kompa music, Blayer Point Du Jour will school you. Once a supporting player in Philly dub-punks Phil Moore Brown, BPDJ has come into his own on Port Au Prince, the solo EP he released on the Philebrity Label last fall. The set jumps from nightclub anthems (“Gunz of Philly,” a riff on The Skatalites’ “Guns of Navarone”) to social treatises (“Iron Dread”), and his eight-piece backing band The Rockers Galore pop like firecrackers. Also on the bill is DelCo foursome The National Rifle, who head into the studio this winter to make their latest record of dance-beat aggro new wave. Between the two, you’ve got your Friday-night partying cut out for you.
