New Zealand's secret saints The Clean have been making mud-luscious psych-pop since '78, inspiring everybody from Pavement to Yo La Tengo to Camper Van Beethoven to get weird and messy — yet they hardly ever tour North America to revel in what they've wrought. Well, here they are now, uh, fresh off their 2009 album Mister Pop, playing their first Philly show in five years. Opening will be Merge-mates/modern noisemakers Times New Viking, whose Clean-ness is apparent every time some sneaky pop hook emerges from the rumbling, tumbling feedback.
Wed., June 6, 8 p.m., $15, Johnny Brenda's, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 877-435-9849, johnnybrendas.com.
