It’s not enough to simply refer to Tony Miceli as a vibes player. He’s an outright evangelist for the instrument, through his teaching in Philly and his online “vibe hangs,” which extend to a network of 3,000 mallet-wielders. Miceli also travels the world giving vibraphone workshops when not shepherding his students here in Philly. Tuesday night, he’ll inaugurate the first of his semi-regular Vibes Nights at Chris’, with Behn Gillece and Randy Sutin on hand to help spread the vibes gospel before inviting some of his students onstage for the club’s weekly jam session. Miceli will also be there this Friday night to co-lead a quintet with saxophonist Chris Farr and trumpeter Joe Magnarelli, fresh off of workshops in Ireland and Delaware.

Tue., Aug. 14, 7 p.m., $10, Chris’ Jazz Café, 1421 Sansom St., 215-568-3131, chrisjazzcafe.com.
