Well folks, Federal Donuts' fried chicken and fancies empire is expanding come Monday with the opening of Federal Donuts West on a picturesque stretch of Sansom in University City. Donut and chicken intel right this way:
Father-son duo, Pino and Antimo DiMeo, and business partner, Scott Stein, are on track for a spring opening to the Wayne sequel of their Andorra gem, Pizzeria DiMeo. Only it won't be named Mozzeria anymore. "Truthfully, a lot of people could not pronounce it," Stein wrote to us via Twitter. We can't imagine they'll have better luck with the restaurant's new name, Ardè, "v. burn, glow, blaze, be on fire, combust; be filled with a strong emotion," according to Babylon translation engine. That's fitting. Stein projects a spring opening and seems excited: "Construction is going good. Our Stefano Ferraro wood burning oven is being delivered from Italy on Wed [sic]."
Passyunk Post is reporting that South Street vegan spot Govinda's is taking over 1408 South Street and transforming it into a vegan pizzeria. Joining the ranks of Blackbird for dairy-free slice and pie options, Passyunk Post is speculating that renovations are going smoothly and that the shop (with bike delivery) should be up and running sometime within the next month.
